Can anyone tell me something about the numbering system throughout this album? D-65AW? etc

Is the cancel on this - 207 A46 - the Printed Star Precancel? I'm afraid to pry them up to get better scan.

And do you think the fellow on the left a 205 A56c

the star looks like a cancel...purple cancel +2.50
the first one is a 205 I believe..

you find all the nicest stamps.

Hi there.

Yes, the bottom one is a "silent" star precancel. Didn't see it at first because it was rather light. Here is another example.

What you have is a Glen Allen, VA star precancel type A.
Your's is a Scott 158 from 1873. Used by Cussons, May & Co.
Since the precancel is red not black value is $225

Thanks, but I'd say the red you're seeing is smauggie's example, and mine is actually purple or light periwinkle underneath the other stamp...:)

If anyone can explain how to scan the lower layer I'm finding... please don't hesitate to jump in.
