Hi guys, could you please tell me the difference in types of these two stamps. Me as beginner can't understand about the grills types, I just found in wikipedia description of it by letters, but no pictures for the concrete type, may be somebody have some link to such resource. On ebay most of the Sc# 92 are "F GRILL", are my the same grill type?

v_paul,

You can get an explanation and see some examples of grills at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grill_(philately).

Thanks Steve, for the link, but I exactly this one I found, but I would like to see the picture for each grill type with description. Did I understand it right, if there are no points on the back side, like on my stamps above, so this stamp has no grill?

You should be able to see some indication of grill points on either the front or the reverse of a stamp with a grill.

Maybe others will see something I missed but, from the scans you posted, I can't see anything that suggests either has a grill so that leaves Scott #63 or 102 as possibilities.

I haven't seen the "hard white paper" of Scott #102 so I can't tell you that you have one of each -- maybe others on the SCF can weigh in.

Given the price differential between the two, and with my luck, if those were my stamps they'd both be #63!

G'Day Paul I'll post a photo of an "F" grill this is on a Scott #100,
as you can see the grill stands out though this isn't always the case.

as you can see this really stands out

nuggethill, thanks for the picture, now I got it, if there is such points on the back side, in this case tell the stamp has some the grill type. Is the grill increase the price to the stamp, I've just found one of my little collection with G-grill??

dear tomiseksj, thanks for your opinion, I should spend more time in learning Scott catalog:) by #63 there are several types of stamps, which of them should be mine? And what about colors the second stamp has much deep blue color.

I wish I could be more helpful at this point but I can't.

I believe the only way for you to determine with any degree of certainty if you have one of the more expensive variants of Scott #63 would be to either compare the stamps to a reference collection or pay the money to obtain an expert opinion.

The best description of Grills that I have seen on the web is on Siegel's site...

http://www.siegelauctions.com/enc/1867.htm

That being said, the best reference that I have is the Brookman Books (Lester G Brookman...)

All 1869 issues were grilled, and they all had the "G" Grill, there are split grills and on ocasion you'll see a '69 without a grill, but there's only one grill on 69s. Now, on the 61s National was playing around with grills for about a year and a half and there's a number of different types. By and large the most common grills on 61s are the F grill, and that's probably what you have, but you should still measure it...

Hope this helps.

v_paul that 3cent train you post is nice.. that one though is a 114, if it DID NOT have a grill that little puppy in that condition would be worth around 20,000.00 US

I have become a sort of expert on this particular stamp in the last few days.
and yes it is a G-Grill

Our forum has a very good slogon "Education is the key to collector success" but in "stamps area" it's like a huge see, where you could everlast student:) Not bad 20.000.00 US.
Regarding the price, it's still for me not clear. I would like to buy some stamps for myself, and sell a couple of stamps from my small collection on ebay, but the price for the same stamps could vary from 50.000.00 to 5 usd, how can it be explained?

thanks for Grill type indentification.
