A unique one I just came across. I didn't even realize airmail stamps were precanceled and most certainly not one that goes as far back as a C2.

The city name is somewhat smeared; I think it may be Gaithersburg, MD, but not sure. Anyone have any other ideas?

I'd also be interested to know if this stamp, as a precancel, commands a different value than an unprecanceled C2.

Thanks for looking.

wt1, What you have is Federalsburg, MD. style type 414. Then was the home of the APS and likely used by them.

Thank you! That info. sure fits. I just web searched the data with that city/state and found that all of the airmails of that series were precanceled. As I said before, it's the only airmail stamp I have with a precancel, so I am guessing they were not all that common.

Now to tackle those pesky Special Delivery precancels...
