Ivan Vurnik - Slovenian Architect (1884–1971) with a Lasting Legacy

A pioneering figure in Slovenian architecture, he played a key role in shaping the so-called "national style."
One of the crowning achievements of his artistic career is the Cooperative Commercial Bank building in Ljubljana, completed in 1922.
Its vividly decorated façade and ground floor, designed in collaboration with his wife
Helena Vurnik—a trained painter—remain iconic examples of Slovenian architectural identity.
He was born in Radovljica—the very town I've proudly called home for the past 40 years.

In 1995 we celebrated the 500th anniversary of my city.
In the old town centre, which has a rectangular shape, many valuable monuments of bourgeois architecture have been preserved.
It is these that rank Radovljica among the most important Slovenian cultural monuments.

The bee-keeping museum in that town centre is an interesting place to visit in Radovljica. And there is a very good view of Mount Triglav.

NSK, I hope you liked Radovljica and other places in Slovenia.
Have you also visited Bled, renowned for its lake with a charming island crowned by a church, and a medieval castle on a rocky cliff?
I live only 500 meters from the post office in Radovljica.
