Try plate 81.

The frames of the stars do not match 85.

The letters are too small for plate 18.
Is it even a type I and not a type II stamp?

I thought Plate 18 is Die 1, Alph 1. An MX cancel should be a Die 1, Alph1 right??

Plate 36 I'd say.

Ha - me too! On my short list was 25,18 and 36... Look at the 12 o'clock ray in the NW star on 18. Almost like a cross. But also sort of on Plate 36 too. 36 H & G look better and the G better positioned. Thanks Bobby.

I very much doubt it is plate 36.

On the 'HG' of the plate 36 imprimatur, the top of the 'H' is quite clearly set higher than the top of 'ONE PENNY.'
On the stamp posted, the top seriff of the 'H' almost seems to rest on the tangent across the word 'ONE PENNY.'

The serifs at the top of the 'H' are very pronounced on the posted stamp and look like a continuous line that almost extends to the left frame line. On the imprimatur, it is missing to the right. Whereas wear can cause some differences from the imprimatur, I strongly doubt it can grow a serif.

The other two plates I considered were 17 and 33.

Much of what I wrote about the 'H' can also be said about plate 17. It has a more pronounced serif to the right, but is more open. Also, the top frame line of the right star must have been repaired, as the imprimatur shows a very weak line.

Plate 33 looks the best fit to me out of all the suggestions. I do think that is the correct one.

Very likely. But never 100%.
