Sirmoor State in India overprinted its regular stamps On S(irmoor) S(tate) S(ervice) for government use.

It used both machine overprints, which were applied in a regular diamond pattern, and handstamped overprints. Many of the latter were applied element by element, producing crazed overprints like this, SG 82

First time seen overprints Peter,
Thanks for posting.
They would have been illegal?

Nice overprint Tony. I always wandered why some of the Indian overprints didn't line up. Now I know.

Rod, I assumed these were legal, produced at the stamp show by the Aussie Post booth. Perhaps I'm assuming too much. I'd be interested to know for sure. If you find out more info, please met us know.

I did a quick google search and an image search, both of which came up blank.

Peter,
I have Bill Hornadge's Cinderella CD,
I'll check if they appear in his listings.

I ditched the bloated Adobe PDF reader,
and use cute pdf reader which will not open
Hornadge's CD Rom.
I'll have to search for another pdf reader first.

Thanks Rod. You have (and are) a wealth of information. I really appreciate and have have learnt heaps from your input.

I've also ditched the free Adobe reader and have recently started using PDF-XChange Viewer. It can be downloaded from
http://www.tracker-software.com/product/downloads/
and also allows writing on top of PDFs. Prior to this I used FoxIt Reader which can be downloaded from
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/index.php
I found PDF-XChange Viewer better for my needs because I can do a lot more with it, but it is larger.

Ryan, I love your Austrian Tiger Cow. That one is magnificent!

Here's another interesting old overprint, which turned this Suriname into a semipostal airmail...

If anyone wants a scan of the 10c blue (same design) for the archive, just shout. Not sure this is American Bank Note's best work, but still nice...

The Philippines were shown earlier in this post, but I'm surprised no one scanned the airmail issues (love those planes!):

You mean it's not FDR?

I may never look at these stamps the same way again...
