This is a commemorative cancel for the 1936 Olympic games held in Berlin.
The 1936 Olympics, are best remembered for Hitler's failed attempt to prove his theories of Aryan superiority. The high point of these games were when African-American Jesse Owens, won four gold medals.
WW2 Germany used Commemorative cancels for everything you can imagine. Hitler knew the value of propaganda probably better than anyone up to that point. This is just another example. I once saw a spoof of his commemorative cancels. It was to commemorate Hitler having his 2nd Bowel movement of the day.
Can be, but not necessarily. There was indeed the possibility of a cancel from the Olympic Stadium itself, but there were other places where Olympic cancels were used. Most of them Olympic venues like the village, the press headquarters, the swimming pool, but also at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin and the press post office of the sailing venue in Kiel in Northern Germany. I have to admit though, that I don't know if these venues all had their own types of cancels. If they did, then yours might be from the stadium. If they didn't it will be impossible to say. Can't help you any further, since my catalogue only mentions the places where the Olympic cancels were used, and not the types of cancels themselves.
