Quote: Is this an Austria stamp. Similar design with the currency in soldi instead of kreuzer are Austrian offices in the Turkish Empire. |

*Bump* Quote: The first stamp Rod shows has a very interesting postmark . The town Sambor, also known as Sambir, is currently in western Ukraine, the region of Galacia. From Wikipedia: In 1772, Sambir was annexed by the Austrian Empire, and it remained part of that country until 1918, when the area of the city saw Polish - Ukrainian fights over Eastern Galicia. In 1919, Sambir, known in Polish as Sambor, it de jure became part of the Second Polish Republic, until its 1939 annexation by the Soviet Union. From 1941 to 1944 Nazi Germany occupied the town, and after World War Two, it was taken over by the Soviets, formally joining the Ukrainian SSR. It was home to Sambir air base during the Cold War. It has been part of independent Ukraine since 1991. |

Wadmalatz, Nice stamps, I am starting to collect Austro-Hungarian stamps with cancels in countries that are now independent. I bought some recently at an auction and when they come I will show them. One nice stamp I have now is from Fiume: Fiume is now part of Croatia, called Rijeka. |

Yes, really nice postmark. It`s Fiume N.M. (Nachmittag- p.m.)This postmark was used only 1 year (between 1869-1870). In the `Classic Postmarks of Hungary` by Gudlin Tamas you can find plenty of information. (it`s in Hungarian-English-German). If you plan to seriously collect Austro-Hungarian or classical Hungarian stamps, this book (catalogue) is a `must-have`. It's easy to use, with plenty of information. Thank for sharing. |

That is a beautiful stamp, Bee. Now my dilemma is, do I look for a copy of Classic Postmarks of Hungary? Sounds interesting, and daunting, all at once. |

Some time ago navigating I found a web page of a Hungarian Stamp collecting club or society (?) in the USA (I can`t remember it`s name). Maybe they can help you get it from somewhere. Gudlin T.:`Magyarorszag klasszikus postabelyegzoi-Classical Postmarks of Hungary-Die Klassischen Poststempel von Ungarn` 2004. Mine is a gift from relatives from Hungary. But if you can find it, just show me a picture of the postmark, or describe it, and will gladly help. I love classic hungarian stamps, although I don`t have really rare or high CV hungarian stamps in my collection, but plenty of literature. |
