Till 1867 Hungary was part of the Empire. In 1867 was founded the Austro-Hungarian Empire (the emperor was crowned with the Hungarian -St. Stephen`s crown- and became also King of Hungary). This catalogue contains about 11.300 postmarks, almost every post-office, ranging from the first recognised postmarks from the pre-adhesive (pre-stamp) period. BUT only the post-offices of the Hungarian Crown`s territories. That means Burgenland (now part of Austria), Croatia (see Fiume, Zagreb etc.), Slovakia, Transsylvania (now part of Romania), in the south a part of modern Serbia, part of modern Ukraine, etc. So only the territories which were considered as counties of Hungary. Anyway, Hungary was much biger, double or more of it`s actual size.
The photo of the Austria #32 that was mentioned - looks familiar to me... I have a bunch sorted under misc. because I have no idea as to where they came from... I think this post will be most helpful! Thanks!
