The Norwegian Seamen's Church organization was established in 1864 to provide spiritual comfort for Norwegian sailors. They curently maintain churches in 32 countries.
Very interesting stamps! Most look to be from the 1950's & 1960's. I wonder if they have produced any more recently?
It seems to be a trend that a lot of these cinderella-type stamps had peaked in the 1960's and you don't see too many of them anymore. Maybe that is partially due to the lament the post office has been complaining about lately in their quest to increase postage rates (i.e. the use of e-mail and texting and cell phones is eating into the profits of the post office in that personal letters and cards have been drastically reduced from the mailstream.)
All one sees today in the mail are bills and advertising, most of which do not even use stamps.
I agree that the use of charity stamps for fund raising seems to be a thing of the past. I remember Boys' Town, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and numerous missionary and religious charity stamps particularly around the holidays. Have not seen most of them for many years now.
LB1, I picked up a collection of charity stamps in 1968 or 69 and they have been in stock pages since then. Not completely sure if I want to collect them or not. My main interest is pre-1940 U.S.
Great post! some real time spent in presentation. Like the accompanying photographs. My Norwegian Cinderella coll amounts to only 5 stamps. Norwegian labels appear quite scarce.
