What you have is Madagascar. Check out this link...advance down to Figure 4 and you'll see reference to the name on your stamp which pre-dates 1961.

It looks like design A32 in Malagasy Republic. Scott #306. But I could be wrong because pictured stamp has different design, but sometimes series has varies design, but I could easily be wrong. Wait for someone to confirm my guess.
