Here are some more lelphants, known to me mostly because they keep the company of monkeys... From the Netherlands, SG2540, Scott B744, from 2006. The sheet came with a "filter" which when run over the blue dots brought up hidden information - is there a topic for "Secret philately"? Then I remembered the beautiful "African Animals" series from Togo.. Not sure of the catalog nr... |

Hi our_elephant, this die proof was part of a lot which included other 11 die proofs of this issue of Belgian Congo. The lot was sold by Cherrystone Auctions in $2,600 (july 2005) |

As usual, past my bedtime, and I'm scanning stamps. Too late to look through 21 pages of elephants, so I'll take my chances that this one hasn't appeared yet. Thailand. |

Here is an image of a semi-postal stamp depicting a child's drawing of a circus elephant and an acrobat, printed by photogravure, and issued by Netherlands on November 16, 1976, Scott No. B529. Note: Hoera is Dutch for "Hurray!" - nethryk |

our_elephant - From Wikipedia: "A semi-postal stamp or semipostal stamp, also known as a charity stamp, is a postage stamp issued to raise money for a particular purpose (such as a charitable cause) and sold at a premium over the postal value. Typically the stamp shows two denominations separated by a plus sign, but in many cases the only denomination shown is for the postage rate, and the postal customer simply pays the higher price when purchasing the stamps." - nethryk |

Outside the US, the name "semi-postal" is almost never used. They are more likely to be known as Charity stamps. Also, I think Scott is the only catalogue that places them at the end of regular listings, rather than in including them with other issues in chronological order. |
