Regarding old albums, my first stamp albums, in 1960, were a Scott Modern 1940 album and a 1935 edition of Captain Tim's Ivory (Soap) stamp album. I still have both, but neither is in use now. I've acquired a number of older albums; a couple thrown away, after taking stamps out, due to very bad condition; or donated to the Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library. I have kept several old Gibbons Ideal albums as references and acquired a 1901 Scott International album earlier this year. The 1901 has few stamps of any value and condition is an issue. But I'll be keeping it.
Some of the country descriptions in these old things are terribly incorrect by today's standards. References to African countries being 'enlightened' by colonial rule, etc.
