Hi, I am a beginner collector of U.S. Postal Service Post Marks and I need some help. I located an article from the U.S. Postal Service on-line on the following subject:

How to Order the First-Day-of-Issue Digital Color Postmarks
In the article it gives the requirements for the type of envelope needed. It says:

"Customers may submit #6 or #10 envelopes constructed of paper rated as "laser safe." The Postal Service recommends envelopes of 80-pound Accent Opaque, acid-free, 9/16" side seams with no glue on the flap."

I have looked on-line to purchase envelopes that matches these requirements, and have had no luck.
Could you recommend to me any envelopes that match this criteria? ....And who sells the envelope.

Any help in this matter would greatly be appreciated. Thank you!

Sincerely yours,

Jamie Wolfe

You can get 6 3/4 Laser Ready envelopes without gum on the flaps from Karl Zurn, karlzurn@gmail.com.

These envelopes are almost identical to the ones used by USPS.

I use these for DCP cancels and they work great.

I print the newsletter and monthly cachet for the Chittenden County Stamp Club in Burlington, VT. We have used Karl's envelopes for years and are very satisfied.

Of course, in the spirit of disclosure, I should mention that Karl used to live in this area and still belongs to the CCSC. When I need another 1000 of the envelopes I just have one of our local members go to the business that is shipping the envelopes and pick them up. Saves the postage charges for the club.

If you go this route and want the envelope to be cacheted, you have to print it yourself. I find that rather tedious. When I want DCP on a cacheted envelope, I purchase them from Artcraft Cachets. I have never had any problem with the Artcraft envelopes.

Do you realize that the minimum number of envelope sent for Digital Color Postmarks is 10 of each cancel?
