I usually stay a bit quiet on forums until I get to know the various nuances of a place but everyone here seems so friendly that I thought I would jump in with a question.

I am considering designing and printing my own album pages and I was wondering if anyone had any tips.

I have dug around in the past forum conversations but not really found any. Perhaps I did not go back far enough.

I realise the the paper has to be acid free - and I have the Adobe production CS3 suite so have access to professional page layout software but I was wondering if anyone had any advice - tips ideas to throw my way.

Does anyone have any tips that can pass on?

Hi Sharon.....

WalMart carries a number of different weights of acid free paper at reasonable prices.

For blank pages, I drew a frame and header and use it as a master to print out extra pages whenever I need them. With a three hole punch is quite inexpensive to have matching pages for all my collections.

I like nr-notrare's idea too--it keeps the cost down and yet takes care of your stamps on acid free paper--like the scrap-booking paper and you can even use the scrapbook albums and design your own pages. I am doing that with a flags page for my US flag collection.

Hi Tom thanks for the tip about Wallmart - but I am in Australia.

I have found it easy to get good quality papers from art shops (in case any Aussies read this)You buy cartridge from 110 gsm and higher (regular paper is 80 gsm) I am a book binder too- so buy paper in bulk and have 7 reams of 200 gsm paper looking at me and I think its time I stopped feeling guilty and reduce my paper stash!

With the Scrap booking paper I can't get it through the printer as it is too wide but I am really interested in designing my own layout with a relatively minimal look and feel. I want to write up and lay out the pages as I go info about the stamps a bit of a border etc and that is it really.

I had not really thought or a more contemporary approach. If anyone is interested I will post images of the page designs in the forum as I go. Or I might start a blog up so I don't clutter the forum with agonies over which layout looks best. That way people can see it and I am not being annoying.

Sharon, the book binding sounds interesting..my son in law works for a printing firm..the book binding area is dominated by young Cambodian girls for some reason.he said when they had a Christmas party and the girls showed up in their native costumes one outdoing the other it was something to see !!
