Welcome Simon, what a ripping collection! The first time I have seen a display of Joubert's Diadems in the flesh. That is a very healthy collection,
I would take it to three dealers for an appraisal.
A lot of early british need close inspection and your scans just don't cut it.
Good luck and thanks for showing it to us.

I would suggest a Stanley Gibbons catalogue as the stamps are mostly UK and commonwealth. If you are in the UK your local library will have one of the ones below to start. http://www.stanleygibbons.com/onlin...at-2011.aspx There are some pretty valuable items there for example: The 'penny black' is not too bad. Clipped a bit at the bottom but with a MX (Maltese Cross) cancel which adds to the value. You'd be lucky to find one on ebay for less then £70ish. You have the years to assist you. |

That's a nice display.
I expect that it would need to be broken up to reach full potential on sale, because the larger lots usually realize less per stamp than singles and smaller lots (albeit with less work on your end), and a British Commonwealth collector would be likely to have many of them already, and is not likely to want to pay top money for duplicates.
If you don't have familiarity with stamps, a few things to keep in mind when looking through Stanley Gibbons... most stamps sell for quite a discount from the listed prices; very small differences can make a huge difference in value (Some of the largest determining factors in value would be pretty much invisible to the untrained eye); age is an unreliable indicator of value; dealers don't pay much.
All that being said, it is a nice collection to have. Perhaps you'll decide to keep it and add to it? |

While I don't think there is anything of major value there, the collection is a great topic to expand upon! |

My comments regarding maximizing value notwithstanding, I agree it would be nice if this was kept together. It could be expanded in some logical ways while still retaining the "overview" character.

Simon: thanks for showing that. The hand-writing under those stamps was fantastic. It may even have inspired me to be a little more careful about my own. |

Very nice looking stamps. While I'm almost solely a US collector, seeing those makes me want to 'expand my horizons'. |

Looking at those really makes me regret selling off everything but canada yrs ago. If you don't need the money hang on and slowly build. A few inexpensive tools and you'll be able to slowly start treasure hunting . If it wasn't for a $10 20x lighted magnifyer I would never of found a few errors that turned a couple stamps from a $1 to $1000 (catalog)value. |
