Here is an image of a stamp depicting le pont d' Aouache, a railway bridge spanning the Awash River in Ethiopia, engraved and printed by Institut de Gravure, Paris, and issued by Ethiopia on June 27, 1931, Scott No. 233.

"Bridge building," designed by German artist Peter Frantzen (1913-2003), engraved by Charles Mazelin, and issued for use in the Saar Protectorate on March 18, 1955, Scott No. 243, Michel No. 330.

Colombia 2014 150th Anniversary of founding of Pereira. Foreground to the cityscape is the César Gaviria Trujillo Viaduct, a cable-stayed bridge, opened on 15 November 1997, named after César Gaviria, 40th president of Colombia who was born in the city of Pereira. The length of its centre span is 211 metres (692 ft), one of the longest in South America.

Singapore 2014 Pulau Ubin (or Ubin Island), this stamp shows a bridge which was built across natural swamp ecosystem as a walkway for nature visitors.

The Bridges in Art

Camille Corot (1796 - 1875) was a French landscape and portrait painter.
His first important work, The Bridge at Narni he painted in 1826 during his youthful sojourns in Italy.
The Bridge at Nantes ha painted in 1827. Both paintings are in Louvre.

Here is an mage of a stamp depicting Le pont des Trous ("Bridge of Holes") in Tournai, Belgium, an example of medieval military architecture, defending the course of the Scheldt River flowing through the city, designed by Belgian artist Oscar Hector Bonnevalle (1920-1993), combined engraved by Paul Huybrechts and photogravure, and issued by Belgium on May 6, 1978 as a Europa stamp, Scott No. 1014, plus an image of a photo of the bridge in 1892. Bonus: Fishing on stamps!

Korean Bridges - 2004

Jincheon Nongdari Bridge was built in the late Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392)
The the bridge is 93 meters long and only 25 piles among the original 28 remain.
It is constructed of small pebbles assembled and is the oldest stone bridge in Korea.

Seungseongyo Bridge is an arch stone bridge built during the Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1910).
The arch forms a complete half circle.

Geumcheongyo Bridge was constructed in 1411 and is the oldest stone bridge in Seoul.
It is 12.9 meters long and 12.5 meters wide with two arches.

The construction of the Jeongotgyo Bridge began in 1420.
The stone slabs lie on sixty-four stone piers of a trapezoid shape.
During heavy rains in the 1920s the bridge was damaged.
The bridge was restored in the 1970s but not in original form, concerete blocks were added.
In 2011 it was renamed in Salgoji Bridge of Seoul.

The Seongsu Bridge was completed in 1979, but on October 21, 1994 the brige collapsed.
In the accident 32 people died and 17 were injured.
The bridge was rebuilt in 1997 in similar to the original design.

The Saint-Nazaire Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Loire river in Brittany, France, which was opened in 1975 for motor, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the bridge, designed and engraved by René Quillivic, and issued by France on November 8, 1975 to commemorate the bridge's inauguration, Scott No. 1457, Y&T No. 1856, plus a photo of the Saint-Nazaire Bridge.

Singapore 31 October 2014 Tourism: 2nd local - bridge over river (note lifesaver ring tied to bridge railing); $1.30 3 bridges here, the artistically wavy Henderson Bridge, the Sky Bridge running in between the artificial giant trees of Gardens by the Bay, and the boardwalk bridge along the swampy coast of Chek Jawa.

Republic of Korea (South Korea) 2014 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Busan - there are 4 stamps in the issue, this one features the Gwangan Bridge or the Diamond Bridge, a suspension bridge located in Busan. The road surface is about 6,500 meters long, with the bridge as a whole spanning 7,420 meters. It is the second longest bridge in the country after the Incheon Bridge.

The Tarr Steps are an ancient bridge across the river Barle in Exmoor. It is 180 feet long and has 17 spans. Do be careful when crossing, you may meet the devil along the way. (And look at Primoz' Korean bridges on page 16 for comparison!)

The Briare Aqueduct carries the Canal latéral à la Loire over the River Loire on its journey to the River Seine in France. The aqueduct is 662 meters long, and it was inaugurated in 1896. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the aqueduct and the barge Lucie, designed and engraved by French artist Patrick Lubin (1951- ), and issued by France on July 7, 1990, Scott No. 2216, Y&T No. 2658, plus a photo of the Briare Aqueduct.
