The Karl's bridge in Prag crossing the Moldau river has appeared years ago on this thread; see pages 7 and 10. It dates from the 14th century and replaced an earlier wooden bridge. It is known for its 30 statues along the sides, one of which is Nepomuk. One of the plaques at the base of his statue shows him being thrown from the bridge to his death on the 20th of March, 1393, during uprisings. Touching the plaque will bring you luck (and makes it shiny!). After renovations the bridge is now open only to pedestrians and many statues have already been replaced by replicas in order to protect the originals from weathering.

(Hi Alexey, Nice to see that Hungary also honored the Novy Most. K.)

Tianjin Eye is a 120-metre tall giant Ferris wheel built above the Yongle Bridge (formerly Chihai Bridge), over the Hai River in Tianjin, China. It is claimed to be the only such wheel to have been constructed over a bridge.

The stamp of 1988 shows Jan Wellem in front of several other city attractions, in the background the contours of the Oberkassel suspension bridge. It is over 600 meters long, the pylon 103 meters high and was completed in 1976. At low water the Rhine is bordered by expanses of grassy meadows but at high water these are flooded, protecting the city from major flooding such as Köln, just a bit upriver, regularly suffers from. The complex of buildings at the right is the parliament of North-Rhine-Westfalia. The earlier bridge was completely removed.

(Hello Alexey, I saw Nepomuk earlier on these pages, he should visit more bridges! K.)

Hello, Alexey, You were quicker than I to add the stamp showing the parliament building seen in the flood photo of Düsseldorf which has the Rheinknie bridge and the Oberkassel bridge behind it. The sculpture of Nepomuk, created in bronze by the artist Bert Gerresheim, stands close to the river in the Hofgarten. He carries an ancient symbol, the bound bundle of staves representing strength through unity. The paved area between the bridges is used for the annual fun fair.

Westminster bridge has been on the thread for many years, see page 2, but today it belongs here again with a painting by contemporary artist Irek Szelag.

The Leo stamp of the Swiss signs of the zodiac series (1983) shows the old stone arch bridge in the gorge over the Areuse in the western part of the country. The stream tumbles down through rugged scenic county to the Lac de Neuchatel at Boudry. There are of course other bridges and also tunnels in the gorge. Beautiful hiking paths and cool even on hot days.

Westminster Bridge is one of the most often depicted on postage stamps, but in its modern form. But this is how the bridge looked before its reconstruction in 1862

San Juanico Bridge is part of the Pan-Philippine Highway and stretches from Samar to Leyte across the San Juanico Strait in the Philippines. Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built on reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design. With a total length of 2.16 kilometers, it is the longest bridge in the Philippines spanning a body of seawater. The bridge was dedicated to Ferdinand Marcos' wife, Imelda Marcos.
The bridge was slightly damaged by Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013 but repaired.

The 75th and the 100th anniversary of the March 1901 opening of the Schwebebahn in Wuppertal were commemorated on stamps. This monorail city train is suspended over the Wupper river on over 900 supports and is sometimes also known as the millipede. Each station along the 13+ kilometer stretch is also a bridge across the river. Several stations have been completely restyled during the past years, for example at Ohligsmühle. I found the scan of a postcard making fun of the Schwebebahn before people began to realize that it is both practical and safe; relative to the number of passengers, the safest in the world.
