The symbolic image of the old bridge with Romanesque arches appeared in the April-May 1984 on the stamps of all European states and was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the European conference on management of communications (CEPT).

The bridge on these stamps can not be found. But it turned out one more thing: drawing competition for these brands won a sketch artist from Monaco. And before there was the famous viaduct San Devo:

,

Unfortunately, it has not been preserved and is now built a new one:

,

not sure, but the old viaduct is very similar to that shown in the CEPT stamps.
In Portugal, released three sheets (Portugal, the Azores and the Canary Islands) with these stamps, which depicts the fields are very similar, but their own bridges similar to the Portuguese:

Alexey - Your Europa stamps immediately reminded me about this one: The Alcántara Bridge (also known as Puente Trajan at Alcantara) is a Roman stone arch bridge built over the Tagus River at Alcántara, Spain between 104 and 106 CE by an order of the Roman Emperor Trajan in 98. It bears the Latin inscription Pontem perpetui mansurum in saecula (I have built a bridge which will last forever) on the archway over the central pier. Designed by Roman architect Caius Julius Lacer, the bridge is 636 ft (194 m) long and it consists of six arches resting on pillars. Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting the Alcántara Bridge issued by Spain on June 25, 1974, Scott No. 1812, plus a photo of the bridge.

There are two bridges that are built by Emperor Trajan.

These were the bridges over the Danube, These bridges were built during the wars with the Dacians, commanded by Decebal.

The first bridge was a temporary pontoon for crossing the Roman legions in Dacia in 101-102 years. Drawing on Trajan's column depicts Roman legionaries,

and the symbolic figure of the Danube, who was surprised to look at the pontoon bridge.

In 103-105, the Trajan ordered the architect Apollodorus of Damascus to build a permanent bridge across the Danube.

It was the first in Europe, a bridge of this size, its length was 1135 meters and he had 20 stone pillars. The inputs to the bridge were protected by towers.

This bridge was so impressive that he portrayed on a golden coin.

The ruins of the bridges towers are now in the Romanian city of Drobeta-Turnu Severin, and depicted in his arms.

That's how the bridge could look like 2000 years ago.

But the Trajan bridge is not stood two hundred years, the Emperor Aurelian, because of the constant attacks goths,

commanded to destroy it, that would make it difficult to ferry them across the Danube.

scifi7 - Nice ones. I have found that Google usually makes it easy to find photos from the same angle to show along with the stamps, but not always!

Marshal Carmona Bridge, also known as Vila Franca de Xira Bridge, crosses the Tagus River, linking Vila Franca de Xira to the Lezíria region of Portugal. The bridge is 1224 meters in length, and it was was opened in 1951. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Marshal Carmona Bridge, designed by V. R. Camelo, printed by lithogravure, and issued by Portugal on December 10, 1952 as one of a set of four stamps commemorating the foundation of the Ministry of Public Works, Scott No. 1757, SG No. 1071, plus a aerial photo of the bridge.

Luxembourg, Duke Adolf Bridge - one of the largest stone arches in the world, a kind of calling card of the country,

therefore, on the stamps the story appeared many times. Show only a few:

Adolphe Bridge is one of the world's largest bridges, made of natural stone. Built at the turn of the centuries the sandstone through the valley of a small stream Petryussy, he was the last tribute to the ancient tradition of building stone arch bridges, so finely executed that it could to ease the arch shape and size (span arch 83 meters) to compete with steel arches of the Eiffel and his contemporary his followers. Its architect was able to create even a few decades, a trend for a silhouette, but it was a farewell bow to the Stone bridge, to replace the stone was already confidently versatile new material - CONCRETE
A similar stone bridge was built in 1923 in Norway (from which it was built in Norway as not made of granite, they have of it made the whole country), in the town Verma, flying out there a little less, but the bridge rail.

Thus, the bridge Kayling - twin brother of Adolf Bridge, and also got to make:

Here and in the U.S. in 1914 postcard shows a very similar bridge, but it's kind of a curiosity - the bridge is actually built out of concrete, as detailed reports on the reverse the inscription (the Americans even boasted how much it costs, and at that moment, he is the longest), and the structurally closely follows the bridge of stone.

In the 20-30 years of concrete arch bridges are already well come into vogue, but their design will be significantly different. Czechoslovakia, Behin rainbow, 1928:

Montenegro, the bridge over the valley of the river Tara, 1940, the design height of 172 meters!

Dnepropetrovsk, Kherson Merefa-bridge, 1932, openwork lace on the Dnieper, was built for over a year:

During this period, will be actively explored the properties of concrete, to improve the theory analysis and design w / concrete structures, and will be built in the Soviet Union is one of the most elegant arched concrete bridge in the world - a railway bridge in Tushino in Moscow. For arch bridges there is an indicator: the ratio of length to the span direction (height) of the arch - it is sometimes called the "coefficient of courage," so here is a bridge Tushino he is one of the biggest.

The first suspension bridge over the Ölfusá River at Selfoss, Iceland was built in 1891. At the time, this English-engineered bridge was the largest man-made structure in Iceland. After its collapse in 1944, it was replaced by a new bridge in 1945, which still stands today. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the old Ölfusá bridge, with the Ingólfsfjall volcano in the background, designed by H. Hafliðason, printed by lithogravure, and issued by Iceland on October 9, 1992, Scott No. 755, Facit No. 804. Note: Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a suitable photo of the old bridge to compare to the stamp's design. So, in lieu of that, here is a stanza from a poem entitled The Olfus River Bridge, by Icelandic politician and poet Hannes Þórður Pétursson Hafstein (1861-1922), translated into English by Professor Dick Ringler, one of the world's foremost authorities on Icelandic literature.

- nethryk

From The Olfus River Bridge

Let us unite our fractured strength and forces;
let faith and trust and progress light our way;
let hands inspired by spiritual sources
claim spiritual lands some future day.

- Hannes Hafstein

The Pont Neuf (New Bridge) is, despite its name, the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France. It is a stone arch bridge, completed in 1607. The bastions give the Pont Neuf a fortified appearance. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Pont Neuf and the Île de la Cité, designed and engraved by Albert Decaris, and issued by France on May 27, 1978 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the beginning of the construction of the bridge, Scott No. 1599, Y&T No. 1997, plus a contemporary photo of the bridge from a similar angle. Note: This stamp was awarded the 1978 Grand Prix de l'Art Philatélique.
