On September 1, 1955 Great Britain issued this one pound definitive stamp (SG #539) featuring a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Dorothy Wilding and a view of Windsor Castle.

Here are three, modern British postage due stamps in various shades of black. They are SG #D41 (1955), SG #D88 (1970), and SG #98 (1982).

This Malaysian one ringgit stamp of March 3, 2003 commemorates the birth centenary of Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaya.

On September 17, 1978 India issued this stamp in anticipation of the birth centenary of social reformer and founder of the Self-Respect Movement, E. V. Ramasami (1879-1973). Ramasami was an important figure in fighting India's caste system.

The birth centenary of theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was commemorated by India on May, 14, 1979 with the issuance of this black, one rupee stamp (Sc #822).

Here are the King George VI 1c definitive stamps of Singapore. The perf 14 stamp (S.G. #1) was issued on September 1, 1948, and the perf 17.5 x 18 stamp (S.G. #16) was issued on May 21, 1952.

On August 9, 1985 Singapore issued a set of four stamps commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Housing and Development Board. The high value, 75c stamp (S.G. #510) features construction workers and was issued in black and gray tones.

From 1942-4, under German occupation, a pictorial set of 18 stamps was issued for Greece. The 100 drachma stamp (Sc #444) from the set was printed in black, and it depicts the Pantokratoros Monastery, founded in 1363.

From Wikipedia, "Pantokratoros Monastery is an Eastern Orthodox monastery at the monastic state of Mount Athos in Greece. It stands on the north-eastern side of the Athos peninsula, and is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Our Lord."

Here is the 200 drachma value (Sc #557) from Greece's 1954 set of 12 stamps featuring Ancient Greek art. A Mycenaen oxhead vase is depicted.

On June 6, 1988 Faroe Islands issued a second set of four, Slania engraved stamps showing Faroese authors. The high value 6.50 kr stamp (Facit #173) depicts Hans Jacob Jacobsen (1901-1987) who used the pen name Hedin Bru.

This black, 1 gourde stamp (Sc #C48) of Haiti depicts President Dumarsais Estime. It is from the set of two airmail stamps issued on February 12, 1950 to commemorate the bicentenary of the founding of Port-au-Prince.
