I thought that I should also add some information on the cancellations used from this post office.
Cancellations known used from Craig Harbours are Split-Ring, CDS types and 'boxed 'registration' markings.
There were 2 types of Split-Ring (broken circle to some) and Type I was inscribed "CRAIG HARBOUR ELLIS ISLAND / N.W.T." and Type II was inscribed "CRAIG HARBOUR / N.W.T.". Type I was proofed on December 16, 1922 and earliest and latest dates are unknown. Type II was proofed on December 9, 1925 with the ERD at Sept., 1933 & LRD at September 16, 1934. The colours of the cancellations are known in both black and reddish violet. The ERD for the reddish violet cancel is December 25, 1936 and the LRD is August 31, 1937.
There were 2 types of the CDS (Circular Date Stamps) proofed. Type I was inscribed "CRAIG HARBOUR / (date in Arabic) / N.W.T." and Type II was inscribed "CRAIG HARBOUR / AM or PM / (date in Roman Numerals) / N.W.T." The proof date for Type I was June 27, 1935 (ERD Sept. 8, 1935) (LRD Sept. 8, 1940) The Type II proof date was June 17, 1950 with ERD at Aug. 30, 1951. The LRD at present is unknown.
There were 2 types of Registration markings. Type I was inscribed ""R / (vertical line) / Craig Harbour, N.W.T. / (horizontal line 1/3 down from top / "ORIGINAL NUMBER" The proof date was December ( ), 1925 with the ERD at December 16, 1934. The ink colours know for the cancels deep reddish violet and turquoise blue.
Type 2 was inscribed "R / (vertical line) / CRAIG HARBOUR / N.W.T. / (horizontal line in the middle of the box) / No." The proof date for this cancellation is at present unknown.
