See what a tidy up can do?!
I just noticed the motto on the cover, "Research and Discovery". Good motto for stamp collecting!
Or even just for stamp desk tidying

Resurrecting my own thread here... I spent a few hours today trying to figure out if I wanted to create an album for B.A.T. or just keep them in Vario pages. I guess I'm leaning towards Vario, so I typed up a few "headings" for the pages. It's looking something like this...

I still don't have that #15, but since my last posting here, I've picked up #24. I guess if one owns the 24, one is definitely a B.A.T. Collector

Below are the decimal surcharges for the first issues:

I think the Polar Explorers is an interesting set. There were a couple different printings and the Scott numbers are a bit "screwy" but I don't have an SG catalog. Below is the "a" set from 1973.

Of course, everyone loves penguins

But for the same reason I like the Explorers, I prefer the historical and expeditionary themes

Finally, here are the 20th Anniversary stamps. I don't have the 10th Anniversary yet, but the 20th includes a cool map.

I have a few more, including gifts from Londonbus (shown in previous posts), but I'm not that far along with my label making. I'll have to post them later.

So, who besides me collects British Antarctic Terrritory?

I looked at a few FDCs with amazing cachets on ebay because they had hexagonal cancels. Does that count? On my list. They are striking stamps.

Nice display, they look good in the Vario's. On paper a special display would have to be made I am feeling to do them justice. They need to stand out.

That is a great invitation to dive into the old Elizabethan Specialized Catalogue...

There were two printings, 14 February 1973 and 21 January 1974. The ˝p. was a different shade in the second printing - the sea is a turquoise colour, whereas in the first it was a dull blue-green.

Fantastic Kirk.

I am not a BAT collector, but the designs of those stamps make me want to reconsider. Did a quick search, and I already have a whopping three BAT stamps so I'm on my way.

Thanks for the info plateflaw. I might be able to get that catalog from the APS Library.

I have a few covers from the British Antarctic Territory.

Rothera Point, Adelaide Island

This post office was opened in February 1977. Established in 1975, by 2003 Rothera was the largest of the British Antarctic Survey bases.

Base Z, Halley Bay

This post office first opened from February 1956 until January 1959, using a date stamp inscribed only with 'International Geophysical Year Expedition'. The cancel illustrated here was introduced from January 1959.

Nice covers!

I don't think there's any doubt that collecting mint B.A.T. is taking the easy way out. Finding this stuff postally used and/or on cover would be a significant challenge!

Finding genuine postal usage is difficult for these.

Here is a precursor to BAT

Shackleton base was established on the shore of the Weddell Sea as the commencement point for the Trans-Antarctic Expedition 1955-58.

This rather contrived cover features an interesting mixed franking, and a most unfortunately-named address.
