Curious as to why the postal cards should be on a Vatican thread?

Isn't it on a US BoB thread?

I'm afraid, I'm really missing something... Yes, US BoB postal cards, but the internationals should be over in world, but still don't get the vatican reference.

Barb, nice cards but definitely outside of my area of expertise. Really like the Newfoundland, very attractive.

@bfranton

When Russ began the thread, he asked if anyone else collected postal cards. I was merely answering his question.

@bfranton - glad to help sort it out. The problem with these long-string-threads is that it's easy to lose track of who is responding to what. NO - I am NOT advocating a change to the format of this forum system!

Regardless, it's great to hear that someone had "too much stamping" - I long for days like that.

Peter

Bfranton: thanks for putting on the Newfoundland post cards. We don't get to see many of them.

I thought Bujutsu would have jumped in here to tell us what they are but he is, no doubt, at another show or giving another speech on the postal history of either Ontario or Newfoundland.

Having said that I think your first card, based on my Webb catalogue (1978 edition) is P6 or P6a (1892 Reply Card) depending on the length of the inscription in the bottom left corner. The P6 inscription is 30mm long and the P6a is 34mm long.

The Newfoundland 1c green card is, I believe, Webb's P12 issued in 1915 and printed by Whitehead, Morris and Co. on thick white card stock.

It's interesting to note that north of the U.S. border that Canada and the then colony of Newfoundland referred to these cards as post cards. I personally prefer the U.S. term postal card, which avoids confusion with what everyone typically conceives a post card to be.

You're most welcome. Actually, can you clear up another mystery? Why are they Canada Post Card instead of Canadian?

I always thought it would be fun to look up a descendant and surprise them with my discovery of a missive from one of their ancestors. I actually got lucky and had the chance last year. I had a really nice cover from Mexico addressed to a grandfather-in-law of someone I tracked down on the internet! The cover had more value to the descendant than to me. I have some post cards from my ancestors which I wouldn't part with for any price.
The trick is finding the final descendants--genealogy works great until you get to the present day with live people, whose identities are protected.

wt1 - I am looking up that Clara Parker on my genealogy. I may be related to her. That would be a coincidence and yes Russ, I collect them and have quite, but as wt1 said, only casually. - Jeff

There used to be a Newsgroup called
alt.english.usage.
It was a great place to address your sort of query.

I could only log on on certain days when I was brave enough,
full of firebrands and rednecks, if you ever wanted to
get abused intelligently it was the place to go.
Amongst the wash there was some really really funny posts,
I would end sometimes in stiches.
Sadly it seems to have disappeared, it would have been ideal
to get an answer to your fascinating query.

Found this one with a 11 Dec 1873 date and Supreme Court (state or national) notice of decision. Think UX3 from marking on card.
