Well here goes, my first pic post. This looks to be a stamp from Mexico when one considers the verbiage, however it doesn't seem to be listed in Scott's. Is this considered a pre-cancel? Some quick investigative work on the Internet confirmed this is Mexico's Coat of Arms.

HI yukoncat, The handstamp is not a pre-cancel. The 'ABR' is probably for ' ABRil' which is April. Therefore April 1952. I do not believe that the stamp would be in Scott since it is probably a revenue: especial para facturas y recibos - Special invoices and receipts The following is a good link for Mexico. It is in Spanish but some pages have a translation to English: http://galeon.com/timbresdemexico/english.htmand on the site if you search for the Spanish text, especial para facturas y recibos, you get: http://search.freefind.com/find.htm...5&SUBMIT.y=9Jerry B |

Nice stamp, nice scan.
Is that a two-headed snake down on the lower left?
Coats of arms are fascinating. |

I'm not sure where Mexico comes into this. This is a Spanish fiscal stamp (for invoices and receipts). The coat of arms on the stamp is the Spanish coat of arms from the era of the Franco dictatorship. The coat of arms underneath is the present Spanish coat of arms. |

Yukoncat, you may wish to change the thread topic to "Spain Fiscal" so future readers can locate and learn from your enquiry

Well done 22crows, spot on.

Hi 22crows
Great job. I did not even think of Spai9n and took yukoncat at his word. At least I got that it was a revenue.
Once again. Great.

Nice stamp Yukoncat
Unfortunately, it is not even listed in my Catalogo Unificado published by Edifil in Spain.
I guess it is one of those stamps you can find information on only if you belong to a particular revenue club and from specialized books on the topic (?)

I haven't been able to track down the date of this, or any catalogue references. The writing on the bottom "especial para facturas y recibos" means "Special for invoices and receipts". I have found images (not my own) of a 15 c version in green and a 25c in red |
