This is certainly the nicest Canadian stamp I own. Gibbons identifies only two shades of of it, however - blue-green and yellow-green. To my way of thinking, this is neither.

Does anyone know of other shades of this issue?

My 1984 Scott Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps and Covers describes #80 as yellow green and 80a as deep green.

My 1991 Scott Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps and my borrowed 1992 Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian stamps are the same in regards to the 1897-1901 Issue. They give no colours for the consecutive main numbers other than the pictures themselves. That is, no colour is given for #80 other than what we assume is a "green" illustration. However, both books describe 80a as "deep green"

Boggs (1942, p77) describes this stamp as green.

Mason's (1951, p54) describes only one colour - green.

Maresch and Leggett's 1982-83 Canada Specialized Postage Stamp Catalogue describes two colours: #80 is yellow green, 80a is blue-green.

My Jarrett album has only one box for the 1c Queen Victoria which they designate yellow green.

It has been my experience that men can only identify two greens, namely "pee green" and "pea green" although some who have been in the military will call the latter "kaki".

cynical, thanks for the detailed knowledge - and impressive wit!

I thought Unitrade or someone else would have to have listed a 'deep green.'
