I recently purchased a Blue Scott International Volume 1 where the previous owner obviously had chosen stamps for the U.S. section with an emphasis on cancels/precancels. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing a few of these. As far as I know the 19th century ones aren't out of the ordinary (geometrics and registered cancels) but there are some unusual 20th century cancels (I have no idea whether all of these are genuine or not--not my field).

I particularly like the hat cancel on the 8c Sherman!

I'll put the rest of the cancels in a second post.

Some very interesting/entertaining cancels. Some appear genuine, but I would venture to guess that several were made up as intentional bogus cancels. The last two on the bottom row of your post, in particular, (and also the frog on the 1 cent Franklin) which looks to me as if someone took a modern-day rubber stamp that you can easily buy in a craft store and affixed a black ink impression on the stamp, as those cancels are only affixed to very common stamps that would have really lost no value to tamper with. (That's my guess anyway.)
