Hi,

The red stamp is from the 1908-16 set with the "LIT. NACIONAL" imprint at the bottom.

There are 6 candidates in the SG catalogue depending on die and perf:

SG 294 - die I - perf 13.5 - used 30p
SG 295 - die II - perf 13.5 - used 30p
SG 303 - die I - perf 10 - used 30p
SG 303a - die I - perf compound of 10 & 13.5 - used £18.00
SG 304 - die II - perf 10 - used 30p
SG 304a - die II - perf compound of 10 & 13.5 - used £18.00

This looks like SG's die I to me so you have three choices depending on perf:

SG 294 - die I - perf 13.5 - used 30p
SG 303 - die I - perf 10 - used 30p
SG 303a - die I - perf compound of 10 & 13.5 - used £18.00

These stamps (die I and II) are listed by Scott as #327 (with two shades #327 red and #327a carmine). There may be more detail in the Scott Classic.

Thanks for the correction Nigel,
my SG does not list any stamp of 1906.
May I enquire as to what catalogue you are using please?
SG Asia? Sth America? or Colombia dedicated?
Cheers.

For the flyspeckers
This little faint nick in the "O"
identifies it as die 1
Some have a line joining the "D" to the "O"

Nice diagram Rodney.

I use SG Part 20 South America 4th Edition (2008).

I was delighted when this was published - it was the first new edition since 1989.

Hi

The definitive book for these issues is:

Colombia 1904-1917: Types of the 'Numeral' Issues

by John N. Myer. I have seen this on ebay once or twice. Mr. Myer has written a number of books on early Colombia:

The 1866 Issue of Colombia
Colombia 1904-1917: Types of the 'Numeral' Issues
Colombia - The 25c of 1869 on Pink Paper
The "Honda" Provisional of Tolima (Colombia)
The Second Issue of Airmail in Colombia
Studies in the Philately of Colombia

One can search the APRL (American Philatelic Research Library)
with John N. Myer to get re-prints of these articles:

If not an APS member one would have to use the Interlibrary service of their own library to get a reprint.

Hi Nigel,

I have a 2007 Scott Classic and it has the same info as the normal catalog.

I am still using the 1989 SG Part 20. Is the new one any better for the early issues?
