Hello, I have a 400-500 hundred german inflation stamps with the overprints on them.. both used and unused. Unfortunately I don't own a stamp catalog like Scott (but I could have access to one at the library). Anyway, are all the varieties of inflation overprints in stamp catalogs, and, is it true that a postally used inflation stamps have some value while unused are worth a penny or two? I appreciate any overall comments on the topic. Thank you, Jon

Hi Jon. As far as valuation goes, generally unused and hinged are low value. If you have unused and unhinged, there may be a significant premium over basic catalog value (and for many of the stamps. the catalog does list an unhinged value. Because of the great value some of the used stamps have, there was widespread falsification of cancellations. If you find one with a catalog value over $100, I would suggest you have a dealer look at it, or get a certificate of authenticity for it. I would also advise that there are stamps whose only difference is the watermark, so be on the lookout for those as well.
All in all though, they are a fun bunch of stamps to work with. |

Oh thank you smauggie, do you know if the scott catalog lists them? (it's the only one available at my local library). I have seen references to Michel numbers in various places on the internet. Do you know if scott lists them? Thanks again, Jon |
