They are indeed, I was delighted when I found my examples
in an album I bought at auction.

Here are similar stamps from Obock on cover.
A thing of beauty.

Sages on quadrille paper are not hard to find...I bought a large glassine of them for next to nothing recently. The writer was correct about interesting shades, interesting markings, and damage.

I'd just like to revisit stamp (3), the one with the 'Journaux' cancel. I just noticed last night that the date on this cancel is upside down.

Does anyone know if these cancels were usually in red?

Does anyone have examples they can show?

Hi,

I don't know if it is common but on this stamp you can see Quadrille WM on the front side :

Theses squares really change design :-)

Thank you!

cdnum,
just guessing, but when you can see the quadrille
I suspect you are suffering early evidence of rust toning.

Hi Rod222,

It's possible but I don't see that on back stamp.

There are verticale lines in design... funny :)

Thank you!
