This old (ca. 1910) German cinderella advertises F.W. Borchardt of Berlin, who appears to have been a seller of wines. He advertises as a purveyor to the Habsburg royal family. The inscription says, "The history of the wine. The wine on the banquet table." |

This Irish computer-vended stamp is one of eight designs issued on January 31, 2019 as part of the country's ninth definite series, "A History of Ireland in 100 Objects." The stamp depicts a 1926 chair designed by the Irish Modernist architect and furniture designer Eileen Gray (1878 - 1976). From the 100objects.ie website, "An armrest was omitted in order to leave the body more freedom in movement and to allow it to bend forward or to turn to the other side.' So said Eileen Gray of what she called her 'nonconformist chair.'..The chair contains many of the notions at the heart of the Modernist movement in Europe: freedom, individuality, the belief that the form of an object should be determined by its function, the use of industrial materials like tubular steel and aluminum." |
