Hello Everyone,

I have what I believe to be two valuable used German inflation stamps I will be looking to sell on a online auction website. I'm hoping for some feedback with regards to value before I attempt to sell them. Unlike some people trying to fetch unrealistic amounts for stamps only is worth a few cents, I'm simple doing my research before I list these two stamps.

Both stamps were purchased in Germany and I have no reason to doubt the authenticity. Thank you in advance.

Perhaps the best place to start is:

Most inflation issues are listed and prices given.

Unfortunately, there is a complication to selling German stamps, and that is that most Germans will not buy valuable stamps that do not have certificates of authenticity. The prices at the above site, for example, are stated as applying only for stamps with INLFA certificates.

I recently had a bad experience that illustrates the pitfalls of trying to sell better German stamps. A couple of weeks ago, I listed three Germania issues with CVs of over 100 Euros on ebay: two sold for very low sums (one bidder only each) and one did not sell at all.

In Germany certificates are expected and a certain amount of suspicion attaches to stamps demanding high prices which have not been expertised.

Here is an example of a current ebay auction that's doing well:

Note that these stamps have been expertised by Schlegel.

If you want to get the prices your items deserve you will almost certainly have to fork out to get them expertised first.

Ontstampman, I agree with jimjamtwo in his assessment of German high value used stamps. I have one of the two you scanned with a faint cancel. My position on used high values is to assume that the cancel is not legitimate unless there is a certificate.

Thank you for the excellent website, the language barrier creates a bit of an issue but at least the prices can be observed in dollars. These two stamps have a combined Scott's CV of approximately $6000. Now I know with stamps anyone is lucky to get a quarter of the value, if that! With these two particular stamps the high value is because they are used. That website unfortunately does not have any used value listed for these stamps.

ONTstampman, I'm not sure what you mean - the website normally does give prices for used stamps.
