Some automotive historians claim that French industrialist and automotive pioneer Édouard Delamare-Deboutteville (1856-1901) and his assistant, Leon Malandin, invented the first automobile in 1883, and drove it in early 1884. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Delamare-Deboutteville & Malandin automobile, and a Formula One racing car, designed and engraved by French artist Raymond Coatantiec (1933- ), and issued by Monaco on April 27, 1983 to commemorate the centenary of gasoline-powered motor cars, Scott No. 1373. - nethryk  |

In this post and the following two posts I will show images of the eleven stamps in a set tracing the development of the automobile, designed and engraved by various French artists, and issued by Monaco on November 12, 1975, Scott Nos. 980-90. - nethryk Rolls-Royce "Silver Ghost" (1907), designed and engraved by Pierre Forget (1923-2005).  Hispano Suiza h.6B (1926), designed and engraved by Jacques Combet (1920-1993).  Isotta Fraschini 8A (1928), designed and engraved by Jacques Combet.
