Rod, I heard you were looking for Telegraph Insulators. Could not find another thread so I started one. EVERYONE, put up your scans of telegraph insulators. I can't believe you don't have this one though Rod.

I have a small collection of glass insulators, fast becoming a relic of another time. I'd love to have such a small insulator, that is awesome.

I have several of the glass insulators that I've found on various archaeology projects, especially those along railroad tracks/beds. There's other ones made from ceramic as well as vulcanized rubber and plastic. In the U.S., word of warning - do not take them from old telegraph lines along active tracks as it's a federal offense and the railroads do have their own special police.

My boyfriend Todd and his brother used to collect insulators when they were younger. Todd still has a nice selection up in his attic. The small "sample" one is mine... I found it on ebay while looking for an insulator for myself. I see them all the time in antique stores, but none catch my eye. This one was too cute to pass up!

There is a road in Concord (Lexington?) MA where the phone lines are STILL insulated with glass! I was shocked when I noticed it one day. I do see some evidence that new poles will be going up. I wonder what the town will do with all those insulators........

I used to live near an old town dump and shoot insulators with my pellet gun, along with old coke, pepsi, whisky, medicinal bottles. If only I had a clue back then those were tresures that would today be a nest egg and a half.
