A grand total of $107.55 (Canadian). And that includes the "gutter product". |

Whew!
I recently decided that I would not collect any modern Canada issued after 2010. Looks like I got out just in time.
I'm not knocking the stamps or anyone who wishes to collect them. I'm just saying that personally, I'd rather spend that $107 on some pre-1940 Canadian. Or maybe start a Newfoundland book, etc.

I shall be hob-nobbing with the Governor General tomorrow at the unveiling of the Royal Wedding issue. I shall think of my colleagues. |

I wouldn't pre-order anything sight unseen. I'll wait for the "unveiling" to take place. I don't know if there is a political reason for it or just for dramatic sales effect, but it seems kind of odd that Canada Post would have announced that they won't be issuing any stamps for the Royal Wedding, then do an abrupt "about face" and tell the world they will issue stamps ... but then delay and keep under wraps the exact design until the very last minute. Sounds like sales hype to me, not all that dis-similar to pre-ordering a new model car before a picture of the final design is released. |

This is a total rip off and completely unnecessary issue. I can see the odd stamp for the Queen, she is still after all officially our Sovereign, Queen of Canada but I can't stomach her brood. Every year Canada Post passes over worthwhile Canadian historical themes for crap like this. |

What have they done to earn such privilege? It is about time birth rights be eliminated. As a commonwealth taxpayer, I refuse to allocate 1 single penny to such a shameless event |

I read an article on these stamps this morning...and the following excerpts caught my eye: Quote:"The first problem...was finding enough paper to print the stamps. Specialty paper fitting the size of each postage [stamp] is normally ordered in advance, but in the scramble Canada Post had to pilfer paper from their Canadian inventions and astronomy series." "We have printed around 16 million of these stamps," says Jim Phillips, the Director of Stamp Services. "We usually do five or six million stamps on a strong commemorative run, but we figure these will sell out before the royals leave Canada." So, if I understand these quotes correctly, the inventions and astronomy series stamps are going to be reduced in quantity as Canada Post had to "steal" (pilfer = steal) paper from that series to produce the Royal Wedding Stamps. Other than for general postage use, the sheer quantity of Royal Wedding stamps being issued will render them virtually valueless to collectors, yet Canada Post expects they will be "sold out" before the end of the couple's planned visit to Canada. That sure sounds like a profit-making scheme for Canada Post now, doesn't it? |

By the way, with today's announcement, the issue date for these stamps is now April 29, not May 2 as first noted by Canada Post. |

two reactions to this thread: 1. Yes Canada Post expects to make a bundle on this issue. Exactly as they should. Every penny earned is part of CPC's profit which goes to Parliament. That is - money to the taxpayer - to from the taxpayer. 2. If paper was 'borrowed" - that raises the possibility of paper variations with this issue - something that in itself is exciting. |
