If they have to to "pilfer paper from their Canadian inventions and astronomy series" thereby reducing the size of those issues, won't that help to increase their value?
And is it just me or are both the Canadian and Australian stamps kind of...well...boring?
Surely they could have come up with a more regal design. We are not amused.

Political issues aside, this is the future King of the Commonwealth, and a stamp issue is appropriate.

However, why could there not have been an omnibus issue again?

The worst I've seen so far is the Niue pair, with her on one side and he on the other, seperated by perfs. I'm sure it will become known as the "Divorce" issue!

Not sure anyone was getting political. I just think they (the stamp people) could have put more thought into the designs, considering this is such an important event. And, yes, he's the future king, he/they deserve something more fitting the situation. I find (visually) the Australian stamp too stark in contrast, and the photo cropping quite severe. The Canadian stamp is just, well, boring.
One man's opinion, I suppose.

While this topic is under "Canadian Stamps and Covers", anyone care to suggest what is their favorite worldwide stamp depicting the Royal Engagement and/or Wedding (at least those that have been issued thus far)? I think my vote goes to the one from Jersey:

I'm sure those countries which count on sale of stamps to bolster their GDP welcome the chance to print up a batch of Royal Wedding stamps.

Can you even wait for the issues from Nevis, Norfolk Island, and all those other dot-in the-ocean-countries to come out with their offerings?

And, with the bundle Canada is asking for such stamps, it appears not only dot-in-the-ocean countries hope to do just as well.

As for the apparent bungles, mis-speaks, mis-prints and just plain stupidity of the brain-trust at Canada Post; I have doubts that so-called "organization" could come up with a stamp to mark the annual anniversary of not abiding by its own rules when it comes to planning the release of a stamp.

Advice to the stamp selection committee: don't French-kiss any baloons and don't lick any stamps unless you want to make them perfins.

I don't know about anyone else but I choke up whenever I see any of the new stamps with the Royal couple on them. Quite a lovely couple.

Canada's international rate stamp is the best one so far as it shows them as they will be married. Quite striking.

The change to the more open frame around the couple shows the more open stamp designs of the modern era and Canadian stamps especially.

From Queen Victoria up through King Edward VII and Kind George V stamps were regally ornate and full of scroll work and filigree. With King George VI issues the designs started to open up a bit and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's stamps have become still more open and pleasant to the eye.

Times change. The monarchs are becoming more one with the people and more open with and more in tune with the people they reign over.

I hope the marriage is as stunning and lovely as the couple and everything goes off without a hitch as I'm sure it will. Best Wishes to all involved.

Back to the question about quantities issued for this series of stamps, all of the media seem to focus on the 16 million number.

If, as Canada Post has suggested, they have so many pre-orders already and have had to "pilfer" paper from other Canadian stamp issues to make this issue work and even then suggest that they will be "sold-out" by the time the Royal couple leave Canada following their wedding, then the number could be virtually limitless, as there would be nothing to stop them from continuing to issue the stamps to meet demand (and, of course, make a big profit, as they will likely be held by collectors rather than used for postage).

Since we are talking near double the quantity of the average Canadian stamp issue, and with the number of stamps and related collectibles flooding the market, it seems to me it would likely keep values way down, as virtually no modern issues of such quantities has ever been a good "investment" in terms of future value.
