Hi David or anyone who could help me with these. Just finished sorting through my Canadian Stamps and couldn't find these. Because I don't have a Scott's Catalogue for Canada I used the Canadian Postal Archives Website. It was wonderful but no mater how many times I went over I couldn't find these particular stamps. Thanks Dianne are the Exise and Customs Stamps considered Cinderella"s?

Dianne.. The bottom two
Ic Green Wat tax 1915... Scott Cat # MR-1
2c + 1 Brown War tax 1916... Scott Cat # MR 3 Or Mr 4 Depending on Perf size
Cant help you on the excise tax stamps, Scott does not list them. Maybe someone with access to a Stanley Gibbons, or Uni trade may be able to help you |

Dianne:
Bobgggg is correct on the War Tax stamps. They are in the back of the Unitrade Canada Specialised Catalogue. Their catalogue numbers are prefixed with the letter "M".
As for the other three....
According to my copy of The Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue - 1991, you have the following...
1˘ green 1935 Customs Duty stamp, value: 25˘ 2˘ blue Excise Tax stamp, from the Two Leaf Series issued 1915-1928, value: 10˘ 6˘ purple Excise Tax stamp from the Three Leaf Series issued 1934-1948, value: 15˘
Hope this helps!
David

Yes it helps a lot David. At least Now I'll know where to put them in my album. I have a few copies of the 2 and 3 cent excise stamp so that when I give them away or trade them I'll be able to pass along the year. Thanks again Dianne |

I've joined this forum because I've recently received a lot of old stamps from my father and I'm interested in learning more about them. I was searching online for info on these 2-cent war tax stamps. I have four connected vertically. Is there a recommended website or book I should consult to discover history, value, etc., before I bore you all to death with questions? Any help very much appreciated. Thank you! |

Thank you very much, wt1. I've been checking out a number of interesting international stamps I have, some from places I've never heard of, such as Maluku Selatan.
I'll check out that link. |

Velvet: As to your second question about Maluku Selatan, this information may help: "The provisional government of Maluku Selatan, the South Moluccas, issued 130 different stamps between 1950 and 1954. Since they were privately issued they are not recognized as postal stamps." Info. taken from this link: http://sio.midco.net/dansmapstamps/...uselatan.htm |

Welcome Velvet! The War Tax stamps you show were not used also for postage purposes but just for revenue purposes. E.S.van Dam has a catalogue and web site just about Canadian revenue stamps. (Stamps used to make the government money but not used as postage (usually). http://www.esjvandam.com/revenues/f.../war_tax.htmNo prices on this page but the number for the coils (two straight sides, or better, perforated horizontally ??.? per 2 cm.) is FWT18 in year 1915. Remember to pop over to the Introduce Yourself thread (near the top on the All Forums page) and introduce yourself. |
