Nice stuff you're showing here finches, keep it up.
Tell me, W.C.G. McCracken Australian Note and Stamp Printer was a private concern, correct?
But wasn't there also the government printer called Australian Note and Stamp Printing ?

Lithograving, GOOD Question you asked, 3 of us here have different answers so I had to edit my Post for accuracy. Apologies, I'm getting old. |

With the retirement of the Commonwealth Stamp Printer J.B.Cooke in 1918, the Stamp Printing Branch was abolished. From then on printing Postage stamps was made the responsibility of The Note Printing Branch, Treasures Dept'. In 1926 it was transferred to The Commonwealth of Australia. In 1959 it became the Note Printing Branch of the Reserve Bank of Australia. So here we agreed on this, W.C.G.McCracken was a contracted Stamp Printer and "By Authority" etc was a shortened Imprint. |
