All stamp collectors have a bias so mine is early Canada, GB, Australia and Germany. That doesn't mean I don't wish I could acquire beautiful stamps from other countries, its just that my bank account will not permit it. This question doesn't have a right or wrong answer except to say that the newer issues of most countries are a disappointment. |

I started off partial to South Korea and have since grown to have an affection for British Empire and Ethiopia. |

I found this statement to be a common view held by many senior collectors, but 50+ years from now there will be many scarce individual values and sets highly sort after.
I suspect every generation feels the same about stamps issued during their time.

All stamps deserve to be loved, I guess, even if you look like this: BHOR (isn't this the sound made by the expelling of air when you are hit with considerable force in the solar plexus?) The answer to the question of which one is best is they are all the best. Even BHOR, whose issues would have to be some of the most utilitarian, functional and sustainable issues produced. You can't accuse Bhor of wasting money needlessly when producing these. I was reading about Tibetan issues the other day, and some of their stamps were produced using house paints. These stamps naturally then had to be cancelled by ink substitutes such as boot polish or soot. Every stamp has a story, and that is what makes them all the best. |

In spite of all this, I don't collect Tibet.
I collect British Commonwealth A to Z from the reigns of Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth the Second up to 1970. Through these reigns you can collect some of the most stunning examples of stamp design, as well as quite a few clangers.
My collection will never be complete, but I do derive great pleasure not only collecting stamps but also researching their stories. |

Tread carefully, now, Plateflaw, for you tread on my avatar ... (And you have it upside down ) This puts me in mind of the lines from Kipling For the world is wondrous large, seven seas from marge to marge, And the wildest dreams of Kew are the facts of Kathmandu And the crimes of Clapham chaste in Martaban |
