The Baggara are an Arab ethnic group in South Sudan.Their name derives from an Arabic word meaning "cattle herder." Intermarriage with the region's original African inhabitants has given them much darker skins than their Arabian forebears. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Baggara girl riding a cow, designed by Colonel W. L. Atkinson, printed by typography (letterpress) by Thomas De La Rue & Co., Ltd., and issued for use in Sudan on September 1, 1951, Scott No. 101, plus a photograph of a Baggara woman, also mounted on a cow, in Kordofan.
