It is the ancestor of domestic cattle. The species survived in Europe until the last recorded aurochs died in Poland in 1627.  |

I'm thinking of scaling down my WW collection and just doing cattle, I have not decided if I want to include modern art versions and buffalo in this yet. Do any of you have any idea of the number of stamps with cattle on them? |

qaman - the American Topical Association checklist for Cattle/Oxen/Bovine/Cows has 1660 entries, and its Bison/Buffalo list has 434 entries. This 1991 stamp from the Republic of South Africa depicts a Bonsmara bull. From the Oklahoma State University Department of Animal Science website, "The Bonsmara has been scientifically bred and strictly selected for the extensive cattle grazing regions of South Africa."  |
