It's not expertized, so I cannot guarantee anything. That being said, the back is immaculate and I am convinced it's OG. The postmark idea is interesting, but the mark stops at the edge of the design and does not encroach into the perforation above it. My best guess is that it was accidental.

Nice stamps Rileysan
Can I ask how you are mounting these?
You cant be hinging them into your book as you said some were MNH..
or are you?

These are all mounted in a Lighthouse hingeless album. The mounts are clear and don't reflect much light so the pix look esp nice

I definitely have my favorite manufacturers, but what you buy depends on your budget.

- Scott. The old scott specialized albums are great, but if you want to use hingeless mounts, they're a lot of work and after you buy enough packets of mounts, you won't actually save any money. So I'd only go this route if you intend to use hinges.

- Minkus. Same goes for the minkus specialized albums. Good quality, but lots of work if you want to make it hingeless.

- Harris. I don't know if Harris makes a specialized album for Canada, but if they do, I wouldn't wipe my ... with it. Absolutely the worst albums ever made. Sorry about the strong opinion :)

As far as the so-called "Luxury" albums, I don't have specifications, so my comments are based on my own experience.

- Davo albums are of poor quality and expensive. Avoid them.

- Lighthouse is one of my favorites. They really are the best bang for your buck. I often see good, used examples on ebay for around $100 for volume one (new is around $250). Lighthouse makes a standard and hingeless version of the same albums, so make sure you pay attention if you make any online purchases.

- Schaubek is really starting to make a name for themselves in North America. I have yet to see their Canada albums, but if they're anywhere near as nice as the their US specialized and Germany albums, then they are something special. Schaubek is also one of the most expensive hingeless albums (a set of US specialized albums are $1500 US).

- Kabe. The one Kabe specialized album I own is hands down, the best quality album I've ever seen ... with Schaubek a close second. If I had a limitless budget, I would own all Kabe and Schaubek albums ... such is their quality. I have yet to see their Canada albums, so once again, do some research!

- Lindner & SAFE. I do not own any albums from these two manufacturers so can't offer much of an opinion other than pictures in their ads look nice :)

Good summary, Brian:

I'm a little surprised about DAVO. I don't own one, but was under them impression they were of good quality.

You don't mention PALO -- another I don't own, but they sure look pretty

I believe LIGHTHOUSE and KABE are esentially the same (same manufacturer website).

I agree SCHAUBEK is nice. I have them and like them very much. One item of note about the hinges themselves; several of the ones you mention are "top loading." Schaubek's are closed at top and bottom with a split back, like the kind you buy for do-it-yourself.

Before buying Schaubek, I would recommend calling Amos -- their sales staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend calling about CANADA because the older Schaubek Canadian albums (like mine) do NOT include Scott numbers. But I'm 90% sure the newer ones do (since Amos owns both the Scott and Schaubek brands).

Great information! I did not know Amos owned both.

As for the older Schaubek albums, you are absolutely correct. Avoid the "older" albums if you prefer Scott catalogue numbers.

As for Davo albums, I bought a set of US albums 6 years ago and was supremely disappointed. They left out many 20th century coils (most of the early Franklin/Washington issues as well as all of the 1923 series), numerous major 19th century stamps and random modern stamps to name a few. The top loading mounts are cheap and are easily broken. And the 20th century pages are full of anachronisms (meaning a 1950 stamp might be found in 1959).

Shortly after buying these albums off ebay, and not being able to return them, I bought a used set of Lighthouse US albums. My big problem with them was that the left out too many major 19th century varieties and mixed BoB with normal postage.

Ironically, my quest to find a better album led me to SCF. I had to learn this lesson twice before deciding to finally ask for help.

I hope you can learn from my mistakes :)

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

This would be analogous of General Motors owning Cadillac and Chevrolet. Chevrolet makes some nice cars, but the luxury car is the Cadillac. KABE is clearly a Cadillac! Perhaps I'll post some pix for effect :)

Which is the perfect segue for ...

Thanks for the compliment! I expect to take more pix in the very near future. For the time being, I'm trying to figure out colors on the small queens >.<

I have some new additions to my collection that I will be posting this weekend. As a teaser, here's a lot I purchased this past weekend. Why buy 1 when you can have 7?

Canada #209, F/VF - VF, MNH lot of seven. Paid $51.50 for all (Cat $80ea in VFNH)

Starting part 2. If nothing else, this is a good exercise In taking a photographic inventory. All stamps are MNH unless otherwise stated.

This is the only stamp I'm going to comment on. I damaged it when removing from the stock page. Needless to say, I'm not happy

Scott 261. Right side "Tonged" by yours truly.
