I put my hand on some great Pence issue yesterday

#1 I tried to scan the back of the stamp to show the horizontal lines of the laid paper but I wasn't to good at it

#2

#5

#7

Some are not perfect but they are originals. The margins are nice

Koala. Nice stamps and a great purchase in one swipe.

Was that either the Vance or Maresch auction of the past few days?

xyyz : no, it came from a friend who is a stamp seller. He called me and said he has something to show me with an offer I won't refuse (like the Godfather :-))

He has a #5 with a thin part on the stamp. He said he could sell it for $250.
Also, he has a #2 that had a reparation by a specialist. He ask $595

Anybody has an opinion on these offer?

Siegel Auctions Rarities Sale
Lots 1271-78. Select "Worldwide - Canada" from this menu:
http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynam...sale_no=1075

If you hit the "Image Magnifier" link in the auction lot, you'll get to a page with "download image" on it if you want to save them or play with them later.

Enjoy.

Koala, I thought you bought those stamps you showed? I know you said you put your hands on them.

The prices for the #2 and #5 are quite good.

Excellent showing.

For the laid paper, maybe if you had a camera and shone two different lights at different heights and angles on the back the lines would show up more? Just a thought.

Thanks Chipg. This site and all the great hi-res picture is invaluable. There is also a good search option to go through 30 yrs of rarities sales.

I just received this one... a gem won on ebay
Canada Pence #9 very very nice margins . The back is also very nice
No tear, no fold, light cancel

Note the missing color at the bottom left... no sign of scratches or else. Seems to be missing color??!

Nice. Be nice also to see the back of it, and on a black background.

It still looks nice!

Maybe a piece of paper on the press that was bigger than most covered up a part? Seems strange that the outer line still is somewhat there though.

I haven't had one of these to touch myself so cannot compare much.

The left lower corner may have had a paper fold, which at the time was unsightly, and so was cut squrae to conform by someone perhaps. Mayhap the outer line has been redrawn over but further cleaning or handling arased any extra green? This is stretchin the whole stopry quite a bit though and I apologize for possibly disparaging a nice stamp.

Just my investigative nose twitching in curiousity. Bay cat, bad.
