Here is an image of a stamp depicting a whaler and a longboat, printed by photogravure, and issued by Tonga on December 1, 1961 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of postal service to the island nation, Scott No. 115.

PAMIR - Germany
A great sailing vessel and its disaster

A four-masted barque, was one of the famous Flying P-Liner sailing ships of the German shipping company F. Laeisz.
On 21 September 1957 she was caught in Hurricane Carrie and sank off the Azores, with only six survivors rescued after an extensive search

Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting a sailing ship entering the harbor at Papeete, designed and engraved by Eugène Lacaque after a Tahiti print by C. Beslu, and issued for use in French Polynesia on October 22, 1985, Scott No. C215.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting the training ship Nihonmaru, and portraits of Makoto Kondo and Yataro Iwasaki, the founders of the Japanese merchant marine service, printed by photogravure, and issued by Japan on July 26, 1986 to commemorate the 110th anniversary of merchant marine education, Scott No. 1679.

Error on vessel description ! Actually the sailing ship on this stamp is the Romanian training ship MIRCEA and not Libertad from Argentina as it is printed on stamp !

Just this past week many great sailing ships gathered in Bremerhaven for the Windjammer festival. Stamp issued in August.

Happy Birthday to Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de Lafayette, Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834), a French aristocrat and military officer who fought for the independence of the United States during the American Revolutionary War, and was a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830. Here is an image of an airmail stamp featuring a portrait of Lafayette and depicting two sailing warships, designed and engraved by Claude Andréotto (1949- ), and issued by Chad on July 30, 1977 to commemorate the bicentenary of the Marquis de Lafayette's arrival in America, Scott No. C212.

Tristan da Cunha Post Office - June 1, 2015
The two stamps and a minisheet commemorate the bicentenary of the battle between the USS Hornet and HMS Penguin, the final action to take place in the War of 1812. The battle between the two ships took place off Tristan da Cunha on 23 March 1815.
