Hi everyone. I would like any info available on these German stamps that were in my $5.00 shoebox. I will more than likely be re-selling the majority of them and am just looking for any information that might help me with listing them on ebay. I also want to make sure I don't potentially throw a 'rare gem' in with a large lot. Any info you can offer will be greatly appreciated. <images deleted>

You have quite a variety here. Deutsches Reich is pre war and WWII (see Mssrs Hindenberg and Hitler?) Deutsches Bundespost is post war West Germany. Deutsches Demokratische Republik (DDR) is communist East Germany. You also have at least two Austria (#100 & 34) and a Bosnia Herzegovina (#65) picturing Franz Ferdinand and the date he was assassinated in Serejevo, triggering WWI. The numerals are 1920s inflationary stamps, the mark was worth next to nothing so you have stamps worth 50 million. #99 looks like a local Danzig stamp (SC# 119 1923). Nice variety. Not a lot of value though. You should get to the library and look them up in a recent Scotts catalogue. |

Do they maybe keep the Scott's catalogs in the reference section that you can't check out? Just wondering because I've already been and looked in the collecting section and couldn't find anything except books on U.S. stamps. |

In our local libraries here, the newest catalogues (2011) are kept in the reference section, and, you are right, cannot be checked out. But earlier ones are in the main library and are available for checkout. Ask the librarian where they are. If you are in a good sized centre, there should be books available to take home. Once there, and you've gone through your shoe box, if you see something that's interesting and has some value in the older catalogue, take notes and to the reference section for a more up to date value. Hey, I've even taken envelopes of stamps in there to get values. It will save you a lot of time. |

I will check that out. I have found a lot of them online, but since I am a beginner, I really don't trust my research. After a lot of searching, I found out that stamp collecting is not just as simple as finding a stamp that looks like the one you have, lol. |

Any kind soul have the Erler /Norton catalogue for this revenue? 1883 Pink with serifs on Capitals I have the script issues information already. Thanks in advance. |

1) Michel makes mention of white & yellowish papers. The only mention of no watermark is in regard to forgeries on greenish paper 2) 6pf Hitler head def. Michel lists 2 groups of shades, various violets & purples, so lots of fun here. 3) 1919 1 July, one of a set of four commemorating the National Assembly at Weimar. SG 107, Scot 105. Handling charge for mint but a dollar or so for used. Right after WWI there was a fair amount of physical manouvering around the Posen/Poznan/Pomeranian area. In 1920 the Polish general Josef Haller with the tacit support of the Polish Government seized Pomerania and entered Danzig/Gdansk. To commemorate this, 3 of the German National Assembly stamps were overprinted "Nad Polskiem Morzem Puck 10 II 1920" (To The Polish Sea, Puck). 10 Feb 1920 was the date of a symbolic "Wedding to the Sea" ceremony at Puck/Putzig. These were ever only souvenirs & were never valid for postage so cancelled copies are by favour. I believe only a couple of hundred of each value were overprinted. |

Rod, 1. There are copies of the 12 Pf Hindenburg on which the watermark is practically invisible. Michel contains this note: Quote: On MiNr. 469 there are pieces with poorly visible, distorted and also without visible watermarks known. This was caused by failures in the watermark drum in the previous production period. Michel doesn't give these errors their own catalog number and doesn't value them. The above note is all they give. 2. Michel currently catalogs the 6 Pf Hitler with a color range -- (dark) bluish-violet to (blackish) red-violet -- instead of a single color. This is because the color of the ink changed gradually over time, so it wasn't easy to identify definitive, distinct shades. Michel does contain a note at the end of this listing, however, that "Color research has not yet been completed for this issue, so for the moment no new color variations can be cataloged (and expertized)." So, we might see additional color variations in future catalogs. 3. Opening of the National Assembly from 1919. MiNr 107, Sc 105. Michel 2016 CV for used is 2. 4. Erler pages (click for higher resolution): |

I'm sorry to correct you, Rod, but "Rohrpost" has nothing to do with the Rhur area, but with the pneumątic post. Which makes more sense with the slogan pm. So, the pm translation should be "pneumątic post saves time" |
