Rod and Mac, that is interesting..i always say its a small world in the philatelic community...and printed in the Capitol...Richmond Virginia. I have always wondered why with the South so large the Capitols Washington D.C. and Richmond were so close together..well Virginia was the main population base for the South.. |

James (Ahmad) sent me the auctions I won, so OK there. It is common, it seems, for people to float in and out of SCF. I miss the humour of LaSwabbie.

Cinderella attached to a stamp, for the Spain and Americas stamp show, "Espamer" held in Barcelona in October 1977. The label shows the sculpture called "La dama del paraigua" (the lady of the umbrella) a very popular landmark in our city. |

Well, the statue has been in Barcelona's oldest park since about 1888, and we ever know the name of the lady who posed for the sculpture: she was a nephew of the artist. Her name was Josephine, not Mary; and she was Catalan (from Reus, in Southern Catalonia), not British like Julie Andrews. This sculpture is considered a symbol of Barcelona's XIX century ladies. Anyway, I belong to the generation that enjoyed that wonderful (for us) Disney film. Mary Poppins, will always be part of us... |

That's a very nice thing to say Cursus. It has been a real pleasure living in this country I, for one, count my blessings. WA philatelic society 1984 |

Okay, the 1922 Malaya Borneo Exhibition wasn't a philatelic exhibition, but you wouldn't have known it with all the commemorative overprints that accompanied it. Brunei, Kedah, North Borneo, Strait Settlements and Trengganu also joined in the fun, much to the chagrin of the collectors of the day. The Exhibition was meant to display the economic potential of Borneo and Malaya. The Prince of Wales (the future Edward VIII) attended the opening. I put this KGV in another thread a while back, but I'll link it here, too, just for reference: |
