HI there,

I'm just curious to know if some of you guys have other "main/side" collecting hobby apart from collecting Cinderellas/Labels/Poster Stamps??

For me, apart from Philatelic Cinderellas hobby, I'm specializing in Rare Banknotes pre-1960's from certain countries (Egypt, Greece, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia & Silver Certificates) which depict Mythical Gods, Factitious Characters, Statues or Sculptures.

At the time being, I'm doing a research on the depicted allegoricals & what they represent.

I even collect "old" pages taken out from old books/magazines/newspaper which illustrate such allegoricals for demonstration & comparison purposes.

What about you, guys? Any?!

I know exactly how it feels! I used to be a philatelist. I was specializing in Egypt (King Fuad era 1923-1937) for almost 9 years and received a Gold medal as well as, was awarded the best articles for two consecutive years (which never happened!) in QC magazine (belongs to Egypt Study Circle).

Honestly, I don't know philb, all of a sudden I lost my interest or you can say I needed to change or something like that!

My first rare Banknote which caught my eyes & took my breath away was from Yugoslavia (to whom it may concern: Pick #33, UNC). After I purchased this note, suddenly, I dropped philately & sold my collection after 9 years of specializing!

Cheers

I only collect stamps and covers. I really have no time left to collect anything else. :)

Hi James, I haven't had the chance to research them yet but I will soon. I pick most things simply by a feeling I get when I see them. It is more a visual and sensory thing for me rather than a desire to specialize in any one area. It might seem an odd and haphazard way to collectI have not yet found an area that I want to specialize in. there are too many items of interest for me. It is the same way I collect stamps and postal history.
Thanks
david

I collect various gemstones ,sizes, fancy cuts bi colors ect... Pictured with the emerald necklace is a 2555ct blue sapphire, plus several emeralds from 500-3000cts. Not your typical sizes unless you wear a dog chain to hold them.
Used to work at a jewellery store when I was a teen and got interested in gemology and pretty well self taught myself the ABC's. Eliminate enough middle men and go direct to the cutters and you'd be amazed at the deals.

nitrolures, although I'm not into gemology, they look just fabulous!

Definitely, it's a full of interest hobby & I wish I had experience in such a field.

Cheers
