James on the banknote topic I recently did a trade with a gentleman that owns one of the most complete (not sure of era) Chinese banknotes that he has won awards for and I was blown away at the engraving and quality of the collection. I wish I had pics to display but I think he prefers to be in the shadows. |

Although, it's not the proper forum to provide scans of or discuss other collecting hobbies I'm tempted to scan the First rare Banknote I acquired. It's from Yugoslavia, unissued note (1935) UNC (Pick #33) Cheers |

nitrolures, I wish I saw his collection. There are lots of interesting materials in Chinese Banknotes relating to my area of interest. However, they need meticulous studies & lots of market tendencies follow up. I have only one rare Chinese Banknote which looks fabulous by all means! Cheers |

Hi All
Apart from my regular collection, I also collect postcards, Polar Mail, Muskoka / Parry Sound postal history and Canadian military mail. But, as well as these, I 'dabble' into beer mats and also have a good collection of old movies, books on movies, martial arts and books on Canadian military history as well.

Apart from the philatelic side of things, I collect militaria. I've got mainly DDR and Warsaw Pact uniforms but now and then a few things catch my eye and I'll trade or buy for them. I've got 2 different sets of Omani DPM and a set of Qatari Police Camo. I've been told by long time "professional collectors" that these things are quite rare and have a decent value. Still, I'm of the opinion that the only value I'm looking for is what fun and interest I get out of them. :) |

I'm a huge baseball fan-- and more specifically a lunatic, stark raving mad Red Sox fan. I collect (really accumulate) autographs.
On the overall baseball side of things, I'm a student of the Hall of Fame- and I've got 130 different HOF'ers signatures, and some really nice ones-- not Ruth and Gehrig, Cobb or any of those guys, but I do have a bunch of .400 hitters (Williams, Terry, Sisler, Heilmann and Hornsby), 500 HR hitters (Foxx, Williams, Aaron, Mays, Mathews, Robinson and several others), a few 3000 hit guys (Yaz, Musial, Rose and a few others), a few 300 game winners (Niekro, Grove, Clemens, Seaver, Ryan, and a few others), and a few really classic names that don't fit those categories: Ed Walsh (lowest career ERA of all time), Sam Crawford, Dizzy Dean, Al Simmons, Gabby Hartnett, Koufax/Drysdale.
Also have a pretty cool Red Sox Collection-- when I did this, it was before 2004 and '07, so I had seen the 7th game of the WS 3x, in '67, '75 and '86-- I tried to find an autograph from every player on all of those teams, even if they had 1 AB or pitched to 1 batter-- about 8 are dead now, but I was able to get all of them. The toughest was Ken Paulsen, who had 4 AB in 1967 (I remember listening to that game as a 10 y/o kid), and when I contacted Jimmy Spence, who is one of the biggest names in expertizing sports memorabilia, he told me he hadn't seen a Ken Paulsen in 7 years. I sent a letter to his last known address, and received 2 autographs in the mail about 6 months later!
3 really nice pieces of memorabilia-- Bill Haselman gave my daughter a bat before a game in Sept 1996 in Detroit, when she was 13 (I have the bat- she'll never get it), and he caught Roger Clemens' 20 strikeout game that night-- so I have a bat that was given to us before that game.
Next-- I have a ball, autographed after the game, that a friend gave me, that he caught at Comiskey Park in 1967, a HR by Carl Yastrzemski. I can't prove it, but it's a Triple Crown Home Run ball, autographed, but not dated.
Also, we moved to Galesburg, IL in 1968, and at a yard sale in the house we were going to buy, was a cork ball (they're also referred to as "mini-balls"), with an autograph on it-- and I paid a quarter for it, and wish I'd kept better care of it as a kid. Jimmy Foxx owned a restaurant in Galesburg in 1956 or 57, and gave those balls out as a promotion for his restaurant. One side says "Jimmy Foxx Restaurant" and the other side is his autograph-- a really tough and valuable piece.
Anyone wants to see any of these, if you're a baseball fan, I'll be glad to scan and post.
Thanks for asking this question-- Ray |

I collect old maps. I have some very interesting maps of Australia, printed in the 1800's, some showing areas named differently etc, as well as those going back to the "New Holland" days. My oldest map is from 1608, a shire of Wales. It amazes me looking at the map, thinking that when it was printed, the king of England was King James I, Jamestown had just been established the year before and John Smith was elected as president of the Jamestown council that year, and this piece of paper I'm looking at was being laid down and printed. The maps of those days were hand coloured, and many painters made their day to day living by colouring maps. So who knows who might have coloured them? Balf |

I collect old automotive books in a small way... (up to about 1920) and my main passion, Italian motorcycles... I have had over 80 but currently have only 7. I collected cars for a while, but the work/money in restoring them and the space required had me cut down to just 4 cars. I collected old maps of Italy for a while, and old well used Italian bank notes... both collections are stagnant at the moment. I am an addicted collector. Can't stop. Regards Gavin |

As many of you know I collect route 66 items: mostly small, paper items such as postcards, business cards, maps, books, pens, and hat pins. I also enjoy World Fair admission tickets. |
