IT'S HERE! The registered letter from Italy arrived today.

It looks better in the flesh than any scans.
The back of the stamp is white. So their is no way it was "dipped in yellow ink" like someone suggested.

The blue is much clearer in the flesh also and not at all green as someone else suggested might have been the result of tampering.

The stamp comes with a 2005 Raybaudi certificate and is signed on the back of the stamp by Raybandi in the correct place. So it's genuine.

I am very happy to have it. It's the without a doubt the top dog of my collection.

Just under 6 months ago I decided I was going to have this issue... now it's here! SUCCESS!!

Detailed scans to follow.

Regards
Gavin

I got a letter in the post from an auction house in Germany today confirming I was the winning bidder on a block of four of the Italian 1996 Yellow Vespa error stamp!!

I am once again a happy collector.
That would mean that I have 5 of the 50 that are said to exist.... 10% of the worlds supply....

Picture to follow...

Agustanz, this probably occurred to you long ago, but many of the early automobile manufacturers of Europe started as bicycle and then motorcycle manufacturers. They went from a bicycle to a motorized bicycle, to a motorcycle, to a rudimentary automobile with a chain drive and a belt transmission, and then of course folded during World War I, either from destruction of the premises, or unavailability of parts and dies.

If you had a list of Italian auto manufacturers before 1920, especially the short-lived and obscure ones, you might find some new motorcycles to study.

Agustanz,

Congratulations, and thank you for posting the update on your acquisition. Every time my wife and I see a Vespa (or another motor scooter) on the street, we smile and say, "Ciao!"

Now I will be on the hunt to get my own Vespa stamp (at least the standard version).

What a great story...and great stamps!

I am still very interested in finding more information on this issue.
I have a good number of these stamps now, including a few with certificates.

I think I have about 18 stamps in total! Did I mention obsessive at all in this thread???

If anyone has any info please let me know :)

Gavin

I don't want to be insulting but your just hoarding that variety and trying to corner the market . I see nothing about collecting here ,just someone trying to buy up supply of that stamp . I spent my life in the Commodities Market and know a little about hoarding and trying to buy the existing supplies ,so please let me put it this way .........what you are doing is unethical.

Yes, I am a little insulted... please don't judge me by your standards of behaviour.

I just really like the stamp, so I buy them. That's my motivation.
I never thought about cornering any market....

Thanks Terry,
I realised the other day I have been collecting this topic now for 18 years!
When the Vespa stamp came out in 1996 I switched from Motorcycle stamps only to my current more focused topic. At the time I thought it would be a smaller collection... boy was I way wrong! 12 large albums later.... :)

Gavin
