Happy Halloween: The Tapestry of the Apocalypse is a representation of the Apocalypse of John designed by Flemish artist Hennequin de Bruges (c. 1340- c.1400) at the end of the fourteenth century. The six extant parts of the set (originally composed of seven parts) are displayed in the Museum of Tapestry of the Apocalypse located in a very long gallery of the Château d'Angers in France. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a detail from one part of the tapestry, La cuve déborde (The vat overflows), engraved by Jean Pheulpin, and issued by France on October 30, 1965, Scott No. 1116, Y&T No. 1458. "And the angel cast his sharp sickle on the earth and gathered the vine of the earth; and he threw the grapes into the great winepress of the wrath of God." - nethryk |

A reproduction of the "mulready" envelope. At the tip of Brittania's left hand, you can see the famous "one legged angel" |

741opamp - An excellent image and post. Thanks for sharing. Here is an image of a Red Cross semi-postal stamp depicting an innocent-looking enough angel holding whips (mercy!), designed and engraved by Pierre Gandon after a fresco in the chapel of the Château de Dissay, Vienne, and issued by France on December 12, 1970, Scott No. B444, Y&T No. 1662. - nethryk |

I received this stamp on a Christmas card envelope today; Royal Mail simply neglected to cancel it. This stamp is from the Christmas 2011 minisheet printed by photogravure and issued by Great Britain on November 8 which includes seven stamps depicting scenes related to the Nativity. The £1.10 value depicts "Shepherds visited by the Angel," and is inspired by Luke 2:10, 'And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people'. No Scott number available at the time of this posting. - nethryk |

The Euphrasian Basilica in Porec, Croatia, is decorated with striking mosaics dating from the 6th century which are considered amongst the finest examples of Byzantine art in the world. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Angel of the Annunciation, designed by Yugoslavian painter and prolific stamp designer Andreja Milenkovic (1923-2005) after a mosaic in the basilica, printed by photogravure (in Austria), and issued by Yugoslavia on March 16, 1970 as one of a set of six stamps featuring mosaic art, Scott No. 1013. - nethryk |
