Angel with the Crown of Thorns is one of the ten statues along the Sant'Angelo Bridge by the Baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598 - 1680) and his students in 1669. The Sant'Angelo Bridge was completed in 134 AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian to span the Tiber.

Verdade (1903) is a life-size stone sculpture by the Portuguese sculptor António Teixeira Lopes (1866 - 1942). The statue, located at the Lisbon City Museum, is a monument to Eca de Queiroz (1845 - 1900), a prominent Portuguese writer. A bronze replica of the statue stands at Baron Quintela Square, Lisbon.

Angel of the Annunciation is a 12th Century life-size stone statue (incomplete) found at cathedral of Porto. The statue is at Machado de Castro Museum, Coimbra.

Virgem da Anunciação (Virgin of the Annunciation) is a life-size statue by sculptor Mestre dos Túmulos Reais (Master of the Royal Tombs) in the 16th Century. The limestone statue is a collection at National Museum Machado de Castro.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting " Amazon leading a horse," a bronze statue (1921-1923) which was the last work by Swiss painter and sculptor Carl Burckhardt (1878-1923), printed by photogravure (Courvoisier, S.A.), and issued by Switzerland on March 28, 1974 as a EUROPA stamp, Scott No. 595, plus a photo of the statue, which is located in the middle of a bridge in Basel, Switzerland.

100th Anniversary of the Passing of Albrecht Rodenbach
October 11, 1980
Albrecht Rodenbach (1856 - 1880) was a Flemish writer and poet and a leader in the revival of Flemish literature that occurred in the late 19th Century. The stamp features the statue of Albrecht Rodenbach with fulmar (1909) by sculptor Jules Lagae in Roeselare.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a statue entitled "The Olympic Swimmer" (1961), created by German-born Monégasque sculptor Emma de Sigaldi (1910-2010), designed by Géraldine Sadlier, engraved by Jacky Larrivière (1946- ), and issued by Monaco on October 28, 1986 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Stade Nautique Rainier III, Scott No. 1550, plus a photo of the statue.

Vercingétorix (82-46 BC) was a Gallic chieftain of the Arverni tribe who united the Gauls in a revolt against Roman forces, and was finally defeated by Julius Caesar in the Battle of Alesia (52 BC). Here is an image of a stamp depicting a bronze equestrian statue (1903) of Vercingétorix by French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904), and views of Puy de Dôme, a large volcanic lava dome, and Clermont-Ferrand, designed and engraved by Marie-Noëlle Goffin, and issued by France on March 26, 2004, Scott No. 3008, Y&T No. 3656, plus a photo of the statue in Clermont-Ferrand. Note the body of the fallen Roman legionary beneath the horse's hooves.

Augustus as Pontifex Maximus (post - 12 B.C.) is a life-size marble statue that was found in Via Labicana. It shows Augustus wearing a toga draped over his head.

The design features the limestone statue Apollo from the West Pediment of the Temple of Zeus in Olympia. The temple was built between 472 and 456 B.C.

The Charioteer of Delphi (470 B.C.) is a bronze statue which depicts the driver of the chariot race. It is one of the best known ancient Greek statues and one of the best preserved examples of classical bronze casts. The life-size statue is now in the Delphi Archaeological Museum.

View of a statue of Albert I, Prince of Monaco (1848-1922) at a ship's wheel, and the Oceanographic Museum, designed and engraved by French artist Claude Jumelet (1946- ), and issued by Monaco on February 8, 1980, Scott No. 1145, plus a photo of the statue in Monaco-Ville's St. Martin Gardens.
